My dog is a zen master

She helps me be more in my element and live in the present.

Seeing her relax at home, reminds me to take time to rejuvenate. I don’t have to rush anywhere. It’s not a race. In order to live my life to its fullest, I need to take time to unwind.

Seeing her dash across the room with her ears perked up when she hears music and laughter, reminds me an important lesson in life.  My happiness is dependant upon how I interpret my reality.

Hearing her trot at a quick pace to a corner in the room when she sees me getting edgy, reminds me to calm down and breathe.  Then I will focus on my in-breath and out-breath until my body and mind are connected.

Seeing her express love to others without expecting love in return, reminds me to love others unconditionally.

Seeing her bounce from side to side in anticipation as I put on her leash and we are about to embark on a walk, reminds me to appreciate the little things in life and not take life for granted.

Hearing her bark when she hears or sees something suspicious reveals her unwavering devotion to protect us. This reminds me of my responsibility to protect my family and raise them to the best of my ability.

Seeing her wag her tail in excitement or pin her tail between her legs in fear reminds me of the importance of expressing my emotions. Keeping my feelings bottled inside will only backfire on me. Acknowledging my emotions and communicating my feelings will help me be more mentally healthy.

Feeling her body against my body when she gives me a paw or when I caress her tummy reminds me of the power of touch. Embracing my loved ones with hugs and kisses is comforting and could help heal our pain and suffering and ultimately says, I love and care about you.

My dog lives in the present - in the here and now.
She is not occupied by the past or the future.
She is not consumed by anger, fear, worry or sadness or stories about what happened or will happen.
She is connected to her five senses
She is in touch with her surroundings and the people around her.
She enjoys the little things in life and has few expectations.
She enjoys being surrounded by positive energy and avoids negativity at all costs.
She is loyal, devoted and caring.
She gives love unconditionally.

I have much to learn from my furry zen master.
